Breaking Down Florida's Budget

Yesterday, Florida Governor Rick Scott signed the 2015-2016 Keep Florida Working Budget. One of the budget highlights is its impressive investments of $1.2 billion into the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). This includes over $40 million for the purpose of removing more than 2,000 individuals from the APD waiting list into the iBudget Florida Medicare waiver system. The budget is also allocating $1 million for job placement and training for people with developmental disabilities. I’m pleased to see how much consideration is being given to people with disabilities. However, along with the budget is a lengthy list of vetoes, including one for the Adults with Disabilities Pilot Program. This is a disappointment for those who would’ve benefited from the program.
